How much can you sacrifice to achieve your goals? Where are the limits of human endurance? Can we always assess the risk well? When should you say “stop” and is it worth doing at all? Experienced and as always inspiring Jimmy Chin and Elizabeth Chai Vasarhelyi are trying to answer the above questions in their latest film, produced in 2018 by National Geographic.
“Free Solo” is the moving and emotional story of Alex Honnold, who decided to do what no one had previously managed to do – alone and without additional protection to climb to a height of 2300 meters on almost vertical, extremely mysterious, majestic and breathtaking formation El Capitan rock, located in Yosemite National Park. It is a story of constant fight against weaknesses, incredible motivation and determination, but also a lonely fulfillment of dreams. The film, which with its uncompromising, sincere narrative convinced critics from all over the world and won the Oscar in the category “Best Full-Length Documentary Film” and a number of other festival awards, (including the audience award gathered last year at the Toronto IFF, Virginia Film Festival and Mill Valley Film Festival).
